Target Audiences


The target audience for this exhibition in my opinion would be people who like the gothic culture, as they tend to dress in a Victorian like fashion and follow in somewhat ways that the Victorians did. I feel like this exhibition could also target primary/early secondary ages due to the Victorian era being a topic taught at those levels of education so it could be a good school trip for teachers to really show their students some sort of reality of it. Also families, specifically the middle class background would be most likely to attended an event like this due to the middle class families having parents in a well suited job with a good education and wanting to teach their kids about the historical times.

The British Library is classed as the national library of the UK founded in 1973 and holds the title for the second largest library in the world due to the amount of items it holds that adding up to over 150 million from all over the world. The library is known for its large research resources as it holds several different forms from print, digital, journals, newspapers, sound and so on. Victorian Entertainment

It is obvious too see that the Victorian era was very much about performance via entertainment from its circus shows to freak shows to magic shows. Many of this entertainment has followed through to the 21 st century with the modern twist but looking into the Victorian periods where they basically had nothing compared to us today was very interesting. A freak show would be an exhibition of ‘freaks of nature’ displaying unusual looking humans whether they’re male or female, big or small. They were displayed in order to shock the audiences, real people basically made a mockery of for people’s entertainment. Freak shows were not all bad as they did show performing acts too like fire eating and stunts with swords, stuff that is commonly displayed on TV shows such as Britain’s got Talent.

Typography

For the typography I decided to used a colour palette on Adobe Colour, which made my process of colours a lot easier due to all I had to do was type in Victorian colours and a large list of all different swatches came up I used the 'Victorian Rose' one.   For the information I used a simple black due to the fact that it is formal, simple to read and visible against the background I chose to use. Although it is a dull colour, its very safe due to the platform that the work will be displayed on as some people may not be able to see the writing due to their screen.   For the Titles I used a lightish brown/pink with the font Goudy Stout, the font I used because it had a Victorian feel to it along with this colour I felt completed the look I wanted.   I used the same fonts, size and colour throughout due to the fact that I wanted consistency within my work and did not want it to look messy.
